Masurian culture is a unique blend of Prussian, German, Polish, and Russian influences. Over centuries the region was inhabited by various ethnic groups creating a rich folklore. MASURIAN FOLKLORE Masurians (ethnographic) — Polish-speaking Protestants with specific traditions. Folk costumes feature floral embroidery, red ribbons in braids. Dances: Masurian oberek, polka, Warmian waltz. MUSIC Country Festival Mrągowo (since 1983) — Europe's biggest country festival. Every July, 50,000 spectators, 30+ bands from USA, Poland, Slovakia. American prairie atmosphere by Lake Czos. FOLK ART Pottery, wicker weaving, wood carving. Famous Masurian lindens — angel and saint carvings in linden wood. FAIENCE Kalisz Pomorski produced famous "Masurian faience" — blue-white pottery with fish and lake motifs. LANGUAGE Masurian dialect (gwara mazurska) — Polish with strong German and Old Prussian influences. Spoken by elderly Masurians.
