Wigierski Park Narodowy

Wigry National Park, established in 1989, covers 15,086 ha of the most beautiful part of the Suwałki region. Lake Wigry (central) — 21 km², 73 m deep, Poland's largest and deepest lake of glacial origin.

Camaldolese Monastery in Wigry — baroque complex from the 17th century, founded by King John Casimir. Hermits' cells. Today a hotel + restaurant + sightseeing. Pope John Paul II spent a night here in 1999.

European beaver (reintroduced from here to all of Poland), wolf, elk, lynx, Wigry vendace (endemic). 42 lakes in the park. Suchar Wielki (peatland with dwarf pines).

Bike and hiking trails. Kayak rental. Park entry 8 PLN.
